Over the centuries, the Pickman House underwent significant architectural changes, including the addition of a mansard roof in the 19th century, which obscured its colonial roots. Its true 17th-century identity was rediscovered in 1964 by local historian Elizabeth Reardon. The display includes archival articles and drawings highlighting its transformation and eventual restoration, illustrating the layered history of one of Salem’s oldest surviving structures.
